Joy Metcalfe JOY TELLS ALL LAST WEEK amiable hotel general manager Doug Forseth and his Hyatt exec- utives entertained more than 2,000 guests at their annual clients reception. It also gave them a chance to display their $15-million remodell- ing job and they did it in a very creative and unique way. There were totally different themes on each of the public floors with an Indian Village with live deer, complete with tepees and smoked salmon on one floor; a California room with hot dogs, popcorn, soft drinks and the Beach Boys playing on another; a Hollywood room with glitter, glitz and George Borns on still another floor. There was also a Wild West display floor with cowboys, fancy ladies, a railway tunnel and a big hip of beef on the barbecue. On the main floor, there was the Brit- ish room with Beefeaters, a MONA HELCERMANAS-BENGE and George Lenko look through beautiful sleek race horse, English jockeys, fox-hunters, strawberries and cream, chilled champagne and Queen Elizabeth. Definitely a fun gala for the top business, community and financial leaders of B.C. Spotted tucking into the goodies were the Properties’ British Air- ways connection, Jim and Joyce MacKeachie, restaurant fellow Sev Morin, the North Shore’s Rocky Mountaineer Railway gurus Peter Armstrong and Ric Antonson (who just launched their new season with a record number of passengers), the insurance world’s Graeme Black, promotions lady Sue Mighton of Mighton Market- ing Services, Labatt’s former PR man Gordy Weber, The Pro- vince’s Ann Garber, the VTCC’s Jan Besseling and a young man | haven't seen since he went to school with my kids, former Sutherland Secondary Schoo! stu- dent, Vince Ornato, who's now in the security business. Also flying in for this auspicious occasion were Toron- to’s Bramalea executives, Dan Arts and George Schott. They were intrigued by the ar- ray of live wild animals in the hotel that included the race horse, a smali deer and a pretty blue parrot — or perhaps they were thinking of their just-laid brand new carpets worth a cool $800,000! Still with the Hyatt, news is that the lady who has been spearheading ali of the excellent public relations for the Hyatt Regency for the past four years is leaving that position. North Van’s Mariette (Mat) Sunderland has done a superb job for the proper- ty. So good, in fact, that she has their Hyatt ‘‘Passports Around the World." He had just been appointed a_ representative of the Architectural Institute of B.C. to a “think tank session”’ in the nation’s capital. It's under the auspices of the Canadian Council of the Blind and their Sharing the Vision pro- gram. Warnet joined fellow architects from all across North America who are experienced, or have ex- pertise in designing items for sightless people. Just another laurel for our can- ny old Scot. Warnet was also in- terested in seeing how the city has changed since he helped design so many of their buildings... There was also quite a party at Tom Larscheid’s Chartwell home last Saturday night. It was a party that Tom’s been planning for his sports buddies for some time. Sports guests included Judy and Bernie (BCTV) Pascali, Bea and Jim Robson, Alix Kerr and J.P. MacConnell, Barb and Gary Monahan, Rainee and Rop Barnett, the male sports con- tingent on CKNW, Leslie and Kent (Province) Gilchrist, Squire (CBC-TV) Barnes, The Sun’s Ar- chie MacDonald and his lady friend, Marlene, Nancy and Bob Dunn, Alice and Arv (Sun) Olson and TV Week's Greg Douglas and his lady, Dee Webster. Dee's just getting over a recent medical problem and just looked great. Even the Oracle of Ambleside Denny Boyd made a cameo appearance. Boyd and Ar- chie MacDonald will celebrate 35 years with the Vancouver Sun at the Press Club tomorrow and we send along our sincere congratula- tions... een “Step It Up’’ is a unique fund- raising idea designed to benefit the B.C.
