This year { said the hell with tradition and J sent her a Valen- tine’s Day card and present and signed it this time. A. The tick with Valentine's cards and gifts is to make it very plain who sent it without signing. Maybe if you lay out a tot of money on a heart-shaped box of calories or go broke at the florist’s, you should hand it to her. Save the anonymity for a cute card. One guy sent his wife a very, very hot and heavy Valentine card and had the envelope addressed by someone else so his handwriting wouldn’t give it away and had a friend mail it back from a distant ‘DREAM SCENE Imagine and sce Country state. He saw it in the morning mail at his house but his wife never men- tioned it. This miffed him, so after a while he asked her who sent that Valentine. She denied getting one and he said he knew she had one, and stop kidding him. Never send a comic Valentine to somebody you want to Jove you. Even if you don't sign it, the reci- pient may guess. If you are going to kid someone with a Valentine, make the kidding in the flattering vein — such as she is gorgeous, @ stunner, a heartthrob, star materi- al, when you know that what she really is is cute and especially to you. Not that she has feet like barges or she is built like a backhoe. Even if she has a good sense of humor, the chances are 1,000 to one she would prefer a sugary love-verse to a rough insult when it isthe t4th of February. If you have to send a funny Valentine to your true love, you should also send at least one sen- timental or romantic one in your own handwriting. Q. Thave s new girlfriend who is from another country and she says the custom of Valentine's Day is dopey and she hates it. But how do I know she doesn't really want me to send her one? A. Send her one. If she gets sore, say it's from somcone else.
