FIFTY PHOTOGRAPHERS FEATURED Expo FIFTY of Canada’s top photographers have shot over 100,000 images of Expo 86 for an official retrospective book entitled The Expo Celebration. The book was launched this B.C. retros' week at Expo 86. Published by Murray/Love Productions Inc., of Vancouver, B.C., the book will be available in bookstores across Canada. The retrospective is new available in book stores throughout Whiecap Books Ltd. of North Vancouver. “We selected 50 of Canada’s top photographers, loaded them up with film, and told them to capture the magic and excitement of Expo 86,"" said Derik Murray, Creative Director for the Expo Celebration and President of Murray/Love Productions [ne. “They began shooting when the gates opened May 2nd, and we now have over 100,000 photos cat- alogued.”’ Murray said the most difficult pact of the project was choosing the final 450 photographs that ap- pear in The Expo Celebration. ABUNDANT MATERIAL “The Expo 86 site gave us an exciting subject: to photograph, and with all the people and events involved with the exposition, we have a wealth of material produc- ed." The Expo Celebration was pre-marketed to corporations, and advance sales of the book already made it a best-seller in the Cana- dian market, according to Michael Burch, Director of Marketing for The Expo Celebration. Burch, who is founder and publisher of Vancouver-based Whitecap Books, said over half of the 50,000 books printed were already sold. “The book stores tell us they eapect The Expo Celebration to be one of the big sellers for Christmas,’’ states Burch, ‘‘Expo 86 has generated a lot of positive memories for Canadians. Murray/Love first approached Burch with the idea of combining their skills in photography and publishing to create the book a few months prior to the opening of Expo 86.
