Treasury Secretary
Donald Regan said.

He said, “There was

Postal mediator
asks for patience

Canadians for patience
with his efforts to end the

22-day-old national
postal strike.
“Il wish you would

persuade the people of
Canada to understand
that this is a consensual
process,” Gold told
reporters as he entered
into separate meetings
with negotiators for the

government and the
23,000-member Canadian
Union of Postal Workers.
“I'm trying to get
agreement and the easiest
way to get agreement is to
have people accept
certain situations. And I
cannot get agreement by
imposing it upon them.”
The two negotiating
teams met separately for
about three hours
