For the third time in team
history but the first since
1973, the Vancouver
Canucks are sponsoring a
British Calumbia floor
hockey team which will
compete with nine others in
the National Championships
of the 1981 Canadian
Summer Special Olympics to
be held in Ottawa, July 16 to
19. -

The 1981 C.S.S.O. has
been formed to organize and
host the 1981 National
Games for mentally retarded
athletes. These Games will

‘Tiger’ lends a hand to NS coach

competition for some 750
athletes attending plus the
opportunity for their in-
troduction to many new
activities in the hope that
they will be able to par-
ticipate in them in their own
communities.

The Vancouver entry will
be comprised of 12 players
representative of the seven-
team Lower Mainland Floor
Hockey league’ which
operates in Vancouver,

North Vancouver, Burnaby,
New West-

Richmond,

minster, Surrey and Mission.

The 12 players, who range
in age from 19 to. 27 years
old, will be coached by
Flynn Lamont, coach of the
North Vancouver team. He
will be assisted by two co-
coaches, Jerry Sephton and
Al McGlashen, along with

honorary coach, Tiger
Williams of the NHL
Canucks.

Williams will travel to
Ottawa to officiate at the
Games and lend his ardent

encouragement and support

to the Vancouver squad.

The floor hockey team,
which has been sponsored by
the local NHL team to the
tune of over $4,300 will be
decked out in full Canuck
colors and will compete
against four other teams
sponsored by NHL clubs in
Canadian cities: Montreal,
Toronto, Winnipeg and
Edmonton.

Championships this year will
be the “Friendship Games”
between the United States

has been selected by the
Canadian Figure Skating
Association to take part in
demonstrations at the
Australian National Figure

Skating Championships
beginning August t.
The 16-year-old skater

will take part along with a
Toronto skater and a
Canadian judge.

The Australians are on a
campaign to upgrade their
skating and asked _ the
Canadian Association for
two young skaters and a

judge to assist in the
program beginning with
their National Cham-
pionship.
