PREPARATION OF PLANTING AREAS

One of the most common faults is the tendency of home gardeners to skimp
on adequate soi! conditioner. This applies to both newly planted material and
established shrubs. Virtually ail broad teaved evergreens (Azaleas, Rhodos,
Camellyas, Heather, etc.) thrive in soil which has a generous portion (up to
50-60%) of peat moss. You should always keep a bale on hand. Use horse or
steer manure only on vegetable gardens or flowering & shade trees and other
deciduous shrubs. Peat moss is slightly acidic whereas manure is aikaline.
