Dear Editor:

In your paper, August 19
edition, an article stated that
Lionel Tiger, anthropologist
and sociologist, believes it is
impossible to change basic
roles of males and females in
society.

To examine how men and

women behave in our
present society is not
relevant. People have

discovered that the behavior
of animals free in their own
environment is very differeat
from that exhibited by them
when caged. We are all
imprisoned in an artificial
environment in which
women are treated as second
class human beings.

Obviously the fact that
women bear the children

makes certain tasks theirs
which they are supposed to
do without monetary reward
as high status. Also even in
western industrialized
societies women have not
yet the right to decide how
many children they must
rear,

Since the Industrial
Revolution males have been
in complete control over
politics and economics. To
intélligent women their
present policies -—-. over-
production of goods and
armaments — are leading
the human race to extinction
— through pollution,
exhaustion~ of  carth’s
resources and a_ possible
nuclear holocaust.

Speck doesn’t
know his Cats

Dear Editor:

Peter Speck, hang your
head.

Your article last Sunday,
despite its preponderance of

technical terms and
nauticalese, committed an
unforgiveable sin. The

spacecraft which ‘ ‘zipped by
al close to 10 knots” was not
a Hobie-Cat but a Sol-Cat.
Sail design, hull shape,
daggerboards - the error is 40
blatantly obvious, you might
just as well have run the
photograph upside down.

And to Sol-Cat and Hobie-
Cat owners, the error is a
crime which only just falls
short of arson, anarchy and
treason. My personal advice
is that if you're out on the
high seas in the foresceable
future, you keep a weather-
eye peeled for cruising Cats.
You may just run foul of a
vigilant pilot seeking to mete
out his own rewibytion by
cutting you in three.
