The first. dgreement, in March 1974, between ICBC and the body, shops caiied for an ‘hourly rate of $14.00. This was increased to $15.50 an hour in January, 1975, and to . the current rate of $18.50 in July, 1975. This is a total increase of 31 per’ cent over sixteen months. During the same period the cost of living index increased only 15 per cent. “In their new submission the body shop operators asked that the base rate be ‘ increased to $23.50 from the going rate of $18.50, or by 27. _per cent. According to a survey conducted: in March, the B.C. body. shop industry’s existing rate structure is already amongst the highest in North America. Because previous increases in body shop hourly rates have far exceeded cost of living increases they have been inflationary. Any further . increase. would make the matter even worse. ‘The present rate of $9.07 © “paid to union body’ shop workers already .allows the operators more than 100 per . cent at ‘the. $18.50 rate to cover overhead and profit. “We will do everything. possible -to” encourage . the. good....operators. who are- Polybubble Is easy to handle and adds a touch of elegance to the | natural beauty of your pool.
