High-rise design contest A NATIONAL competition to improve the design and construction of high-rise apartment buildings was announced today by the Honourable David Dingwall. Minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), and the Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). The “IDEAS Chalienge” addresses some of the prob- lems facing the Canadian building industry. Many high-rises sustain moisture damage that can be costly and difficult to repair. The Challenge — will encourage builders and designers 10 apply the results of this research. “Not only will this re- inforce Canada’s role as a world leader in housing tech- nology. but we will all bene- {it from the spin-off effects of healthier living environments and the potential of new jobs within the building industry to meet the demand.” said Dingwail. The winning team will be announced in the fall and wilt receive $75,000 to reduce incremental costs.
