You.can be a donor if you are in‘ good health and between the ages of 17 and 7!. Donors over age 66 must have given within the last’ two years and first © time donors .are restricted at age 60. ~¥You should also not be on any medication, however there are a few exceptions. . It is advisable. for donors to have’ a substantial meal within four hours of coming to the clinic and to allow an ‘hour for the ‘donation process. Donors are aiso asked to bring their blood donor card. First .time ‘donors . should bring identification. The average person has between 4,500 and 5,400 millilitres (10 to 12 pints) of blood in their body. The Red Cross needs only 450 millilitres (one pint), which - is quickly replaced by the body with no ill effects.
