FANS Night Is first class entertainment AT just $30 a ticket, Saturday’s FANS Night offers bang for your buck. Cocktails and canapes, a stage show highlighting the North Shore's rising stars, an art exhibit, live auction, a tribute to artists Arnold Shives and Norman Tait and coffee and dessert — all is included in the ticket price. It’s a first-class arts event and a great way to spend a Saturday night, said event producer Linda Fiel, who is hoping to fill all of the theatre's 380 seats. “E don’t think that the community at large understands a) the importance of the event and b) what a wonderful opportuni- ty this is for an evening out,” said Fiel. This is the fourth year for the awards night, which will be held, as it was last year, at Capilano College’s performing arts theatre. Proceeds from the evening will go to the FANS account, established by the North Shore Arts Commussion in °95 and intended to support the development of the arts on the North Shore. The goal is to establish an endowment of $20,000, About $17,000 has been raised to date. Fund administrators hope to award the first grant within a year, said arts commis- sion chairman Don S. Williams. “Hopetully we can soon put the money to work in the training and development of young artists,” said Witliams. Young artists are a part of Saturday's lineup, which includes performances by pianist Katie Hiynsky, the 3 Divas, Laudate Singers, Flamenco Alcala and the Kwakiutl dance group Atlakem. Hosting the event is Renaissance Woman and on-air television eccentric Karen Firus, a North Van film-maker, painter, furniture maker, production designer, set designer and writer. FANS Night starts at 7 p.m. For tickets and information, call 980-3559. Tickers will also be available at the door. — Layne Christensen p.m. Foot of Lonsdale. Park Royal South: Artfilly Yours.
