JAMES Cooper Keith loved the North Shore and as a noted share- holder in the North Vancouver Land and. Improvement Company he was a prime instiga- tor in the incorporation of the District of North Vancouver. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1852, to a family of well-known _ financiers, Keith came to Victoria in 1876 to take a position with the new Bank of British Columbia. He married Ann, in 1879, daughter of the Honorable Roderick Finlayson, chief fac- tor of the Hudson’s Bay Company in Victoria. As a latidowner and banker, Keith controlled large tracts of land and became wealthy through wise real estate investments.
