Bemoaning bladder beefs

Dear Editor:

In response to the article on the front page
of the Jan. 7 North Shore News, | was rather
amused about the biffy problems in Lynn
Valley.

Most of the other routes have a bathroom
facility for the drivers and their need for one in
Lynn Valley seems quite reasonable to me.
Councillor Lisa Muri commented that she
went all the way to Calgary and stopped just
twice to go!

Needless to say, Iam sure that some drivers
have gone to the “loo” at the Quay or Phibbs
Exchange and still have a need to go again in

Lynn Valley.

Who is she to say how long anyone should
have to wait?

Ihave gone to the “loo” at home, got in my
car and gone one mile and have had to go
again. I think our district council is being
uarcasonable in asking BC Transit for a more
logical reason as to why one is needed in Lynn
Valley. Perhaps they would like all of the drivers
to sign a petition saying they have gone at the
side of the road. Would that be a “reasonable
request?”

Notes on a life well lived

of Mrs. Nan McLean deserves
more than just the mention
that she has reached the age of
“100. Here’s more.

1914, That didn’t stop her
: from becoming. a Red Cross
Nurse volunteering for service
in a British military hospital in
France as soon as she could.
She. came to Canada soon
after the war and met and
married:.her. husband who
worked on the ferries here.
-_ He. died. young and they
‘had: ‘no ‘children; But she
@.. became the nanny to Chunky
> Woodward’s' family ‘and has

been called “Nan” ever since,

She lived in West
Vancouver for 50 or 60 years,
her last residence there in a
Kiwanis home-apartment.

When in her 70s she was
knocked down by a car and
was severely injured.

She was in the Lions Gate
Hospital for weeks but she ral-
lied and moved to the Silver
Lynn apartments in North.
Vancouver where until recent-
ly she looked after herself.

When 1 first met her she
was barely five feet tall, and
we called her “Wee Agnes,”
but she has shrunk since then,
bur only in stature.

She’s a gutsy littl Scot
with a delightful sense of
humor and an effervescent
smile. She loves ail things
Scottish, including shortbread

which she used to bake well
into her 90s.

She was greatly heartened
by the appearance of a piper in
full regalia playing Scotland
the Brave at a party given in
her honor at the Cedarview
Lodge. They gave her a large
decorated birthday cake burt
she hai no time to eat any
because she was “holding
court” to all her well-wishers
and admirers. She wants te
visit her birthplace in
Kirkintilloch this year!

A few of us who were close
enough heard her join in the
singing of one of her favorite
Burns’ songs, her signature
tune, Bonny Wee Thin. That's
how I shail always reanember
“Wee Agnes.”
