These will showcase nearly everything our College has to offer. © There will be something for everyone: from a harvest fair with crafts and face painting for children in our new Child Care Centre, to self-guided horticulture - tours, a philosophy café,Web café, athletic tournaments, mask making, library tours, a world-class Japanese art exhibit, a visit by renowned author Doris Anderson, and the jist. goes on. Capilano College officially opened on Septernber (0, (968 with an enrelment of 784 students. Twenty-nine years later, _ vf enrotment has reached 6,000 students in credit courses each term, with an additional 6,000 students taking ~ non-credit courses annually. Not bad for an institution that began by running scattered classes from a church basement, a warehouse, a high school, _and even a bowling alley. In 1973, the College moved to its permanent 34-acre - location at 2055 Purcell Way. Today, we also have regional campuses in Squamish ‘and Sechelt. Most recently, we've started offering classes in Whistler, although > courses ¢an virtually be taken at : Capilano College from anywhere around the world. All you need is a computer and an Internet connection. The College's videoconferencing centre has also added a whole new dimension to distance learning. Our transformation has been phenomenal. Last November we opened our latest addition, the Birch building, which houses a 380-seat performing arts theatre, classrooms and student services. This completes the third phase in a five- phase master site development plan. Ie joins our new Child Care Centre, completed in 1996, the Library building, completed in 1993, the Sportsplex, completed in 1991, and the Cedar building, also completed in 1991.As a result, Capilano College has one of the - Most impressive campuses ii Canada — something of which we can all be proud. Nearly one-third of North Shore residents have taken at least one course at Capilano College and approximately 20,000 students have graduated from either a university transfer, career or vocational program.
