Boating safety program

TO PUBLICIZE National Safe

Boaling Week, The British
Columbia Boaters Association
(BCBA), as a member of the Canada
Safe Boating Council, is hosting a
complimentary Dockside Safety
Program on Saturday, June 11, from
8 am.to ! p.m. at the Canadian
Coast Guard's new False Creek
facility at 1661 Whyte Ave., in
Vanier Park.

Coast Guard examiners will be
on hand to conduct vessel safety
checks for BCBA member and non-
member pleasure boaters alike.

The BCBA, in cuoperation with
Canadian Coast Guard Search and
Rescue (SAR) operations, will urge
all boaters in attendance to complete
its complementary vessel identifica-

tion form.

The unique on-line computer reg-
istry, soon to be in operation, stores
relevant vessel and owner informa-
tion on a 24-hour data base accessed
during SAR operations.

Boaters attending the Dockside
Safety Program are asked to respect
the heavy marine traffic conditions
expected at the entrance to False
Creek. This will be the first public
boater’s event held at the new Coast
Guard facility.

The steel and concrete structure
replaces the old wood and creosote
dock razed due to a boat fire in 1991,

Participants in the Dockside
Safety Progam include BCBA, the
Canadian Coast Guard, CMRA, and
BC Tel Mobility.
