8- Friday, b November 13, 1987 ~ North Shore News PARK & TILFORD HELIPORT Dear Editor: The Oct. 11 news item North Vancouver Council reconsiders P & T heliport reported that Ald. Blair ‘'suggested that council defer the decision pending a report from city staff and solicitors of the le- gality of the move.”’ This record is subtly and grossly misleading. The fact is that once staff confirmed that council could legally renege on the deal (strange!) I moved that the whole matter be referred to staff for a report on the advisability or pro- priety of reneging on the deal. When my referral motion failed in a tied vote 3:3, I asked staff if lew Zealand needs Dear Editor: I do enjoy the humor of Doug Coilins. My son sends them to me and they ‘‘make my day.’’ His happy face and his attitude to life they had concerns over propriety. That question and the clear, lengthy reply expressing grave concerns over the propriety of reneging on the deal went unrecorded in the news item. Well, I take the view that there is a difference between what is Jegal and what is right, and that when the difference comes up it is better not to act in haste, and especially not to act in a fashion that may call into question the reputation and integrity of city hall. Let the readers decide, dear editor, whether the news report cited below adequately reflects act as a tonic. He suggested council defer the decision pending a report from city staff and solicitors on the legality of the move. However, city ad- ministrator Gerald Brewer said lawyers had already confirmed the amendment is legal.”’ The news item generally does capture the serious concerns over noise and heliports which were ex- pressed at length, with passion and with deep conviction. Surely in the heat of the moment we need also oug retaliate so peevishly. I wish we had someone like him in New Zealand to put our anti- U.S.A mob in its place.
