The pasia extravaganza received raves, both over the airwaves and in today's column, from the trio. Return to Cafe Roma was worth the trip CAFE ROMA, 60 SEMISCH, NORTH VANCOUVER, 984-0274 THE STRANGE art of restaurant reviewing has taken a tentative step beyond the printed medium into the ballyhoo of radio. Though newspapers and maga- zines remain the best sources of permanent written reference for the ravenous eating public, the concept of live chew-by-chew meal coverage is currently being pio- neered by ex-News staffer Michael “Regular Guy’? Doodson. Da | table hopping by Timothy Renshaw Along with color man Kevin Moe, Doodson makes weekly forays into the culinary jungles of Vancouver and surrounding com- munities for CKO Radio. The two bill themselves -as the Roving Gourmets, a pair of regular guys who loudly kick the starch and finger bowl elitism out of restau- rant reviewing. On a recent outing, the digestive 8 & ‘emai Fine Continental Cuisine duo invited the News Table Happ- ing bureau along as a guest gourmet. Doodson and Moe, for the benefit of their listening audience, wear tuxedos and travel in a white stretch limousine. After comparing expense ac- counts, we directed limo driver Jerry Thompson to Cafe Roma. Fast approaching its first birth- day, the restaurant has managed to juggle its over 50 varieties of homemade pasta without bobbling any of the freshness or diversity of the original concept. It remains one of the North Shore's best pastarias with one of the Lower Mainland’s most extensive pasta repertoires. See Savor Page 19 SEAFOOD & CONTINENTAL MENU Daily Sun.
