Walker wins local
jtennis tournament,

NORTH VANCOUVER tennis
whiz Fabio Walker captured the
boys’ under-16 title Sunday in the
Adidas Canadian junior tennis

» championships held at the Burnaby

Tennis Club.

The 15-year-old Walker used his
powerful forehand to defeat fifth-

seeded Mitch Rubenstein of On-
tario in the final.

Walker beat Rubenstein, of
Dundas, Ont., in straight sets 6-4,
6-4,

In other tournament action,
third-seeded under-18 Ontario
player Hubert Karrasch came from
behind to defeat seventh-seeded

Gerald Ronan of Toronto.

Ronan suffered a knee injury
midway through the first set of his
championship and favored the in-
jury throughout the final.

A total of 120 under-18 and
under-16 tennis players qualified to
compete in the tournament.
