Our debt to Variety OPEN LETTER TO CITIZENS It is with great pleasure that I have proclaimed the week of February 8 to 13, 1983 as “Variety Club Week” in West Vancouver. The citizens of this community owe a great deal to the work which the Variety Club makes possible and I draw to their attention the followmg: ~ Telethon will be broadcast live throughout B.C. for 22 hours on February an 13, 1983. 2. The three major areas where funds raised will be donated are: (a) The new Children’s Variety Research Centre, a state of the art facility to study problems of child- hood. (ov) The Blectro-Limb Program, to supply a full size range of artificial limbs to the children of B.C. who by birth or by accident are handicapped. fe) Fhe Renald MeDonald ——- Sunshine Coaches to meet the transportation needs of handicapped, special and underprivileged children, and continue to supply buildings and equipment to children’s charities throughout B.C. 4.The Variety Club is once again asking for the help and support of the people of B.C. whose generosity enabled the Variety Club to raise $2.25 Agenda highlights W. It appears these women are forgetting the lessons of history. Banning something never stopped it — addictive drugs are the best example of this truism. However, the muzzling of free expression, in whatever way, is the first steptotrue dictatorship, and having spent my formative years helping to stop one such nightmare, I have no desire to waste my remaining time in a similar exercise. Prohibition is not only useless, it is certain to spawn worse than it seeks to cure. We have the weapon to cut this excrescence off at its roots. It is simply that of making the choice to exercise the right not to have these channels available in our homes. If enough people Letter to Samaritan Dear Editor: To the driver of the beige Honda Lic. No. CBW 253 who stopped and assisted two ladies in distress on Saturday, January 29th at 4 p.m. on the road through the trailer park from Park Royal and declined reimbursement Good Samaritans are rare. Your help, so graciously and unselfishly given, is much appreciated by the driver of the blue Vega and I hope, if ever you are in similar need, the road will deliver someone of equal human conscience to your aid.
