September 30 is the opening night for a one-man show of selected paintings by Jose Salvador at the Harrison Galleries in Park Royal. Salvador was born in the Andalusian city of Seville, in southern Spain. At a- very early age he developed an interest in painting and even before any formal art training his paintings were being hung by relatives and friends. His great-uncle, Rafael de la Torre, was a renowned artist in the late 19th Century whose works are exhibited in the Art ~ Museum in Granada, Spain. After graduating from school Salvador entered the Bellas Artes de Hungria Art School in Seville, where he studied art and design for five years. From there he went to Madrid where he worked as a designer, painting in his free ime. In 1971 Salvador met his wife Mary who was spending the winter in Seville. They returned together to Van- couver where they were married. After returning to Spain in 1973 Salvador devoted all his time to painting and they lived near Malaga on the Costa del Sol for the next five years. During this time Salvador was exhibiting on the coast and in Madrid and Seville.
