about mental health disorders
and empower people to
improve their mental health.

“There is still a tendency
to make light of. disorders
such as panic attacks, phobias
and obsessive behaviors,” said
Bowker.

“But there is nothing
funny about them at all. They
can paralyse a person if they
are not dealt with.”

The Screening Day is part:

of a research project initiated
by the U.S. National Institute
for Mental Health. It is sched-

uled during Mental Health’

Week, being held from May 5
to 11 across Canada, spon-
sored by the Canadian Mental
Health Association.

“ Association’s asthma camp. The residential camp at Hatzic Lake
in Mission runs from Saturday, Aug. 9 to Tuesday, Aug. 12 for
children“ aged between seven and 10 years, and from
Wednesday, Aug. 13 to Saturday, Aug. 16 for kids aged 11
through 13. Campers enjoy activities such as swimming, canoe-
ing, and hiking while learning to manage their asthma. Besides
a 24-hour medical supervision, campers are assured of attention
to their dictry, emotional and physical needs. North Shore
youngsters who are interested in attending camp can call 1-800-
58864 for registration forms. The fee is $125 per child and
imited finaricial assistance is available.
