‘shooter’

Geek News: Banjo Tooie in
the works

Only on the shelves a couple
of weeks and Nintendo's
Banjc Kazooie already has a
sequel in development. It’s all
part of a clever plan at Rare:
some areas in Banjo-Kazooie
can’t be accessed without frst
playing the sequel, Raujo-
Tooie.

Nintendo 64 & Playstation:
Forsaken (Iguana/Acclaim)
This title is easily the best
first-person marauder of the
corridor shooter variety. Scoct
down convoluted colonnades
on the x, y, and axis — sim-
ilar to Descent and such —
with nary a nauseous
moment. The homicidal hov-
erbike you roam around on is
smoothly self-grounding; you
hunker level with the relative
horizon, nat the wall or ceil-
ing of the 3D virtual maze
you're in. Control is tricky at
first, but if your controller
feels like a second skin to you,
then you won’t have a prob-
lem mastering either of these
gems. The Playstation version
plays better than Forsaken64
thanks to the apt use of nvo
analogue thumb-thingies.
However, the F64’s control is
laid out similar enough to
Goldeneve that it feels instantly
familiar and awesome
enough. Each platform plays
out a different scenario with
F64 being a blow-up-everv-
thing-orama with more but
smaller fevels; the Psx version
being vast, expansive and
more akin to the missions-
with-an-objective style of the
PC original (place argument
for CD vs. Cartridge here).
Both play fast and fluid for
the most part and fighting
effects are second to none.
Loads of pick-ups, power-ups
and super charged bonuses
scattered about and amazing
Al enemies hiding around
every other corner ready to
go ballistic on your beefy
bike. Furtunately, vou’re
armed with a nasty array of
weapons.

Go nuts. The Nintendo staple
of four-player split-screen
death-match is ultra cool as a
one player game with three
CG opponents. Both games
have mostly pros, few cons.
Great rental, Great purchase.
