A tree fi the giving Cap program spatlights our caregivers CAPILANO College is doing more than turn- ing out university transfer students, busi- ness program gradu- ates and graphic designers. The college is home to the media resources: program, Students in) the two-year full-time career program learn a variety of skills from pho- tography and video produc- tion to Internet design and radio production. A major component of the program is the production of a six-part series for television. The series is produced by first- and second-year students. In the past, students have conquered such. topics as Local Strangers, Strange Locals, Last year's production focused on people who have occupations thar may be seen as “Off the Beaten Path.” This year, students look at the lives of people whe self lessly devote themselves to helping others in need. The students are calting their production The Giving Tree. To the students, a tree symbolizes care, nurturing and shelter — three elements that are essential to the serigs’ central message. “The theme is all about people helping people,” says Tle Giving Tree publicist and media resources student Daniel Bryant. “It’s: about going the extra distance in order to cnsure well being for another, and in’ turn: every: one.” Interview subjects include the outspoken AIDS activist Sister Cla member of the elite military search and rescue outfit called Sartces, renegade church =o minister — Kevin Annette and representatives trom A Loving Spoonful, Canuck Place and the Make A Wish Founaation.
