The 63-year-old owner of a consult- ing firm was born in Paris, France, where his French dad and China-born “Anglo mom lived for some time. _ His parents married in. China — his’ mother’s father was a doctor there for 45 years — after meeting at Sorbonne, University i in France. The just-wed couple travelled a J while and swung through Vancouver in 1929, but went back to France and raised Boname, his ovo brothers and a sister. The family moved to Canada in 1941, soon after the Second World War broke out. A strapping young lad, he joined the NATO (North Adantic ‘Treaty Organization) military at 25 and was sent to Naples, Italy, There he met Patricia Anne Clegg — now Pat RBoname, mayor of West Vancouver. | “She was visiting her former, classical “voice teacher, an ex-pat Canadian and a friend of-mine,” Boname said. “That's where our romance started,” They got married in an Anglican church in Naples, Italy —— nearly 38 ‘called Urbanics Consultants Ltd., . W years ago — and had two of four chile dren there. ib : While in Italy, Boname went into! ~ business for himself, marketing, prod ucts from Canada and the U.S. for Europe. A few years later the family. moved to Toronto, then'to West. But he wanted his own business and set up a consulting practice in 1976 which he’s owned, managed and operated, for the last 21 years. “We're land economists,” Boname ” -explained. “We do all the marker and financial feasibility studies, and work: with architects and planners.” Projects include Granville Island, : Lonsdale Quay Market and Whistler village.
