North Shore to Vancouver, the
lower deck would carry the traffic
which would enter a tunnel at the
end of the bridge and would take
‘the same route directly under the
existing causeway.

The bridge would be modern-

‘ized — upgraded and kept open for
traffic throughout its construction.
When corapleted, traffic flow
would be the same as.it is now but
without the tie-ups that exist with
only the three lanes.

The route would not direct more
traffic into the West End.-nor
expropriate property, nor use park
tand.

Following are the key elements
of the Heritage Design Concept as
outlined in the proposal.

@ Retention of the heritage struc-
ture of the Lions Gate Bridge.

9 Provision of twin inbound/out-
bound decks with four public vehi-
cle lanes and two transit/high occu-
pancy vehicle lanes. *

Provision of the dedicated
“passing” cyclist lanes and two
pedestrian walkways.

@ Provision of uni-directional
causeway/tunnel within the existing
Stanley Park alignment and present
right-of-way width.

f@ Protection and enhancement of —

the present Park Drive experience
through fimitations on truck access.
the advocacy of non-arterial road-
way standards and the restoration
of the historical character:

#1 No land acquisitions or expro-
priations that impact aatural planti-
ng. First Nation Jands and/or exist-
ing neighborhoods.

3 Maintenance of present traffic
patierns and capacity in normal
peak demand periods between 6
a.m.and 11 p.m. throughout the
construction period.
