For shareholders, that translates into 50 cents per common share after provisions for preferred dividends. By Surj Rattan News Reporter Canfor said the profit loss would fiave been worse if not for the $5.8 million gained from in- surance proceeds on assets destroyed in a fire at the com- pany’s Fort St. James sawmill in December 1990. The floss in earnings is signifi- cant when compared to a profit recorded by Canfor last year. For the same time period last year, Canfor reported a net in- come of $13.1 million, or 55 cents per common share after preferred dividends. Net sales for the period were $213,6 million or 11 per cent less than 1990 first quarter net sales of $239.7 million. Despite higher pulp shipments, “a major slide’’ in pulp prices from a year ago led to the reduced earnings from the company’s Prince George mills, an interim recort to shareholders said. The dispensary system manages the filling of prescriptions, pro- vides patient drug use informa- tion, checks drug interaction and drug allergy information and helps the pharmacist with billing pro- cedures. The point of sale system allows the cashier scanning of items to manage pricing and inventory control as well as provide elec- tronic purchasing and receiving capacity. Meanwhile the dental system addresses office management pro- cedures such as insurance billings, patient scheduling and recall. e OUR HERITAGE * Since starting up I1 years ago, the company has grown to employ about 60 people and services mere than 1,500 North Amsrican cus- tomers, According to Hili, last year the company generated about $10 mil- lion in sales. As in any other software niche, the competition is fierce. Said Hill, “‘I would say it’s extremely competitive and we’re no different from any other computer software company. What we believe dif- ferentiates us is that we've surviv- ed being in business through the fast 11 years — through a period of time in which the majority of software companies have not sur- vived. There’s been tremendous technological change on the hardware and operating system platform side.’* Hill pins much of Zadall’s te- nacity on the company’s focus on after-sale service. ‘‘It means that we have a 1-800 customer service organization that operates 24 hours per day to support custom- ers who are using our products,’’ he said.
