WEST VANCOUVER Mayor
Mark Sager will be one of the
judges in this year's Secondary
Schools Essay contest sponsored
by the Greater Vancouver
Regional District (GVRD).

Sager joins fellow GVRD direc-
tors Richmond Mayor Greg
Halsey-Brandt, Delta Mayor Beth
Johnson, White Rock Mayor
Gordon Hoge and GVRD infor-
mation staffers Bonnie Mulzet and
Bud Elsie.

The deadline for the contest en-
tries is March 22. The contest is
open to all students in Grades 8 to
12 in Greater Vancouver schools.

There are 13 prizes, including
$500, $400 and $300 for first, se-
cond and third places, respective-

Essay topics deal with the en-
vironment, farmland and the ag-
ing population.

Foot patrol
nabs thieves

WHILE ON foot patrol in North
Vancouver City, two members of
the North Vancouver RCMP
detachment arrested three youths
who were breaking into vehicles.

The suspects, two males and a
13-year-old female, were ap-
prehended while breaking into
several cars parked underground
at an apartment complex.

One of the suspects was charged
with possession of stolen property
after the police recovered a credit
card that had been stolen from a
vehicle in West Vancouver the day
before.
