HWY. 11 - Friday, May 11, 1995 - North Shore News City taxes jump by 6.5% NORTH VANCOUVER City Council adopted Monday night a 1990 annual budget that includes a 6.5 per cent overall increase in taxes, Contributing Writer The total $27 million budget is up $875,000 from the 1989 budget. And the 6.5 per cent tax increase is lower than the 11.4 per cent in- crease approved in December when the provisional budget was adopted, North Vancouver City Mayor Jack Loucks said the lower rate is due largely to increased interest earnings from the municipality’s Tax Sale Fund, as well as taxes generated from new properties in the city. The Tax Sale Fund contains $24 million from the sale of crown land, but he said only the interest from the fund is used as budget revenue. Actual tax increases in the city will vary from 3.95 per cent for single-family dwellings to 12.25 per cent for strata-title residences. Other percentage rate increases include commercial, 4.21; light in- dustrial, 5.35; utilities, 5.92; major industrial, 6.63; and apartments, 6.98. Loucks said all the rates were based on an estimated 10 per cent increase in school taxes.
