Dear Editor: So Capilano College has increased its enrolment by 7.2 per cent. The authorities of that college might be well advised in the future to attend to quality, rather than quantity. The revolting sight of lawns and alleyways littered with greasy papers, hamburgers, cans, plastics, filth of every description leads one to wonder whether Capilano College has set out to recruit its students chiefly from among the dregs of society, rather than from among normal, decent young people. Why should we pay taxes to perhaps bring to our neighborhood even larger numbers of creatures, whom neither parents nor school have evidently taught civic attitudes and consideration for others and the environment. There are garbage bins everywhere, but they are too lazy to walk a few steps up to them, unless it is to throw their garbage together with the costly dishes On another but related environmental subject. Capilano College has a beautifully landscaped cam- pus: why must it desertify its surroundings? There are two solutions to the traffic probiem: an intelligent one, which consists in making people pay for the privilege of parking, thus using financial and/or administrative means to force students into availing themselves of the excellent bus transportation available or else joining car pools; and an unintelligent solution, which consists in destroying the wooded areas that screen the campus, which is what the administration of Capilano College continues to do. Even modest screens of trees and shrubberies that separate the parking lots are being cut down and replaced with sterile ‘‘landscaping.’’ Rene Goldman and Terry Dekur North Vancouver Developer explains quoted prices Dear Editor: I refer to the article written by Corinne Bjorge which appeared on page 3 of the Aug. 30 North Shore News. In instances where prices are quoted —- ‘‘...will cost between $160 to $190 per square foot’’ — it is always a good idea for the reporter to check the accuracy of the quotation. In this case, I was very careful to avoid setting any prices, as our company is a long way from mak- ing this kind of determination. I be cleared before the announced ume.
