7 - Friday, April 7, 1989 - North Shore News MAILBOX Legal opinion needed on Collingwood issue Dear Editor: Thank you very much for the article by Maureen Curtis publish- ed in the March 15 North Shore News. It described well the prob- lems with the Collingwood deci- sion and my dilemma regarding the lack of a legal opinion. In short, an excellent article. One small point of clarification. My dismay was a result of Mayor Lanskail informing me_ that whether or not to seek a legal opi- nion would have to be decided at an in-camera meeting. It was a shock to have my request for a legal opinion on such a major issue already in the courts blocked. And bewildering that the mayor or another alderman would not have sought one, The decision to obtain a legal opinion ought to have been (a) automatic (i.e., any alderman re- quiring a legal opinion ought to get one), or at least (b) decided in public. I have no objection to the Coll- ingwood zoning issue itself being discussed in camera (as the article implies in the first paragraph, top of column four). My apologies if I did not make myself clear to your reporter on this point. Thank you again for your careful coverage of West Van- couver municipal issues. Caro! Ann Reynolds, Alderman, District of West Van- couver Exhibit supporters thanked Dear Editor: i would like to express my ap- preciation 10 the many volunteers who so willingly gave of their time and energy in contributing to the success of the recent Story of a Community exhibit.
