' The German Shepherd Dog Club of B.C. is ‘holding its 34th annual “specialty show ‘with two obedience ~ -trials and a futurity and maturity -show.. The event takes place at William Griffin Park, 851 West Queens in North Vancouver, Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24, starting each day at 10 a.m. This show is a major event for the German shepherd dog breeder or owner with entries from B.C., Alberta, Washington and Oregon. On May 23 there will be two ‘ obedience trials open to all breeds of pure bred dogs. The futurity and maturity shows will be judged by Theis Mesdag of Oregon. This is a breeders’ showcase where the products of various breeding pro- grams compete. Winners are eligi- ble to go to the National Specialty Show in Toronto in September. On May 24 the German Shep- herd Specialty Show, with an entry of 125 dogs, will be judged by Helen Gleason-Faye from Texas. The German Shepherd Dog Club of B.C. was created in 1953 and is founded upon the integrity, sport- smanship and geniune love for the © German shepherd dog. The. main purpose of the club is to improve the breed and to educate the Ger- man shepherd dog lover in all aspects of. breeding, grooming, obedience, nutrition and care. Members. are seriously concerned with problems within the breed and the public’s perception of it, particularly temperament and _ir- responsible breeding. The ciub runs two eight-week obedience classes on the North Shore for all breeds of dogs and has show-handling classes in the Fraser Valley. Some members are active in pet visitation programs, visiting the elderly in special care homes in the Vancouver area. Anyone interested in the pure bred German shepherd is invited to attend meetings or to contact the group for assistance or informa- tion on the breed. .
