8- Wednesday, March 18, 1987 - North Shore News Mailbox - D. Collins, Hitler analogy attacked Dear Editor: I take great exception to one Colia R. Jones likening Doug Collins to Hitler. For Mr. Jones’ edification let me say that Doug and |, having both been captured at Dunkirk, found ourselves in the same POW camp. 1 have known Doug since we were both 20 years old. He could never keep quiet when he saw someone being bullicd or unfairly treated. One day when we were bored sick sitting in the sun picking lice from our shirts, Doug looked up at the guard in a watch-tower near us and yelted to the guard ‘Hitler hat nur cin ei"? (Hitler has only one ball). The guard trained his gun on Collins and instead of shooting him, — telephoned the guard room and told them of Collins’ blasphemy against the Fuhrer. Two guards were then sent into the camp to lead Doug off to the punishment bunker, When the two guards attempted to march Doug off, he grabbed both of them by the front. of their tunics and smashed their heads together. The two Germans sat stunned on the ground until no less than six Ger- mans were sent in with fixed bayonettes to arrest the person Mr. Jones likens to Hitler. Sometime later Sgt. Collins escaped and after many daring attempts he finally reached the British lines and returned to Britain. For his courage and devotion to duty,he was awarded the Military Medal, Remember this Mr. Jones and M.L. Butler of Fort Langley and all the rest of you carping twits out there, when you malign Doug Collins you are maligning a very brave sergeant of the Gloucester Regiment. Alex C. Furthermore, , I surely hope Dance a success that Mr. Collins is never in need of a female physician, fawyer or psychiatrist — one who has spent years studying for her profession and who has earned every possi- dle right for success. Your insecurities are showing Mr. Collins. It’s time for you to grow up and face these irrational fears and ideas of yours, but please do not foist them upon others. Catherine Davey North Vancouver Dear Editor: I would like to thank the many people who helped to make our Valentine’s dance a success. The donors of prizes, moncy, time and work were very much appreciated. These included: Woodward's, Dino’s Restaurant, Peter Black and Sons, Cheers Restaurant, Petro Canada Station, Marine Drive. Pea-hens become pea-cocks Dear Editor: I know we are fast approaching the situation of Orwell's Animal Farm, but it seems to me there is one point that he missed. Not only are all the animals equal, but he cither overlooked the fact or failed to warn us that all the pea-hens would demand to be pea-cocks. Presumably surgery will have to tuke a giant step forward, and steroids will have to become a reg- war course of pea-hen diet, Even at that, 1 wouldn't give much for their chances in a knock-down, drag-out fight. { never did have the thrill of kissing a bearded female (if there are any left) and it’s a thrill | wilt gladly forego.
