& - Wednesday, Atgust 27, 1986 - North Shore News Mailbox The North Shore Neighbourhocd House is pleased to announce the opening of Royal Mail is no more) ; —_ Dear Editor: For some time | have been wan- fing fo get some long awaited answers regarding our poor postal service, and | am sure it is of great concern to ali of us. Tt is a disgrace. A letter awaited from Victoria, wis post stamped Yellowknife, N.W.T. — delayed mail, why? A) birthday card) sent from Sechelt, took IC) days from post date, An Easter card mailed a week in advance on Lonsdale, to only go within a mile, was received the next week. itis not worth the high prise of cards and postage if not received for the proper occasion. I got in touch with our local post office. 1 didn't blame the chap in charge, he is just a litthe cog in a big wheel. He had no knowledge of any bags of mail being lost or overlooked. He also said all North Shore mail goes over to Vancouver. | suggested (hit a separate mail box be placed for all North Shore mail. He said there would be no one to sort it, With all the unemploy- ment -- why? With the huge population and industry oon the whole North Shore, | think tt is time some sort of a sorting distribution centre should be set up. This would alse cut down on the enormous amount of mail going through the main Vancouver post office. What happened to the goad old days of the Royal Mail? Vv. Edwards North Vancouver IMMIGRATION POLICY refugees x Ni > more if you : Dear Editor: please! — lam getting fed up hearing of all these so called refugees landing in this country, The recent arrival of those people off the banks of Newfoundland highlights the nonsensical procedures being followed by the immigra- lion authorities. Personally | doubt if any more than one per cent who claim refugee status are worthy of consideration. Because your native land is in turmoil does not in my opinion give grounds for granting refugee status. They should stay there and try to reconcile the situation by whatever means may be necessary. As we well know some come here and carry on the fight from this end. To think after all the lying and conniving these people displayed it is shocking to think they now have the benefits of hospital care, welfare and of course legal aid. When paying your income tax it is always good to know how your hard-earned dollars are spent! Most of the pioneers of this country were refugees from poverty who travelled steerage to get here with fitthe or nothing in their pockets, No reception committee awaited them with hand-outs but when the time came to fight and die for this country many of them did.
