songwriter Michael Booth Palmer
is resurfacing with a new lineup of
songs, bringing his all-star band —
Linda Kidder, Peter Padden, Dan
Smith and Steve Soucy — to the
Vancouver East Cultural Centre
April 2 before he heads to histori-
cal Barkerville.

Palmer wil! perform selections
from his debut album, Wheel of
Romance, which was mixed at
North Vancouver's Crosstown
Studios and released tast fall.

to Nashville to put together four
more tunes and realized ij could

| already had. 1 went into the stu-
dio, remixed the tunes, gave them
a more updated feel and released
it on an independent label,” he
says.

Palmer says he could never af-
ford to do that five or six years
ago. But that changed with the
surge in independent labels.
“You have a lot more control
with an independent label, and if a
song does well, your portion of
return is much.higher. But it’s still
difficult competing for airtime,’’ he
admits.

Palmer says country music isn’t
what it used to be: ‘It’s not really

. country anymore, It’s a real mix of

pop, folk, rock and blues.”
