The municipality owns 65 per cent of the property in question and there are 20 privately owned homes in the area. For the past eight years council has carried out a waterfront acquisition policy which has endeavored to sup- press prices in advance of ex- prupriation or rezoning of Restraint won't breed crime Dear Editor: I was shocked to hear Art Kube, president of the B.C. Federation of Labour, tell Members of the North Van- couver Chamber of Com- merce that the increase in pet- ty theft, shoplifting, break and enter, vandalism and other crimes can be blamed on the government’s restraint package. Come on, Art! You aren’t really trying to have us believe that ordinary, honest working people will resort to a life of crime using govern- Delighted with WV home feature page Dear Editor: A West Vancouver home I have listed for sale was featured in your paper on the weekend of Oct. 23, 1983. I would like to express my delight with the coverage your Mr. Ellsworth Dickson gave this home on 6089 Glen- eagles Drive. His photography is beautiful, showing a real sensitivity for the best points the home has to offer, his write-up ts excellent and suc- ceeds to hold the interest of the reader, the layout 1s perfect and pleasing to the eye The owners of the home are sharing my delight and satisfaction and are joining me in thanking the North Shore News for giving thei home the attenuon of the 7 ment restraint as the justification? The worst of us will take advantage of any Situation but I doubt that hitherto innocent children and adults will go on a rampage, as you threaten, ‘‘burning our chur- ches’’ and ‘‘stealing from their employers’’. Let’s have some reason in- jected into this situation before things get worse, just because Art Kube says they will, Doug Vincent North Vancouver Home Feature page. At least half of the people coming to my ‘‘Open house’’ that Sunday remark- ed on the beautiful feature they had admired earlier that day Thank you again and please express our great appreciation to your Mr Ellsworth Dickson Irme d’Erceville West Vancouver the properties. This policy has caused great stress and anxiety for the remaining homeowners. Sales of our homes on the open market have been effectively negated, and although mem- bers of council and staff tefute this, the Inspector of Municipalities has described the situation as ‘‘...placing far too great a burden of un- certainty upon the affected homeowners’’. The present policy is dis- criminatory. The affected homeowners are fed up with government interference with our homes. We are anxious for a policy change that returns to us the right to sell our property, without restric- tiens, on the open market, just like any other property owners. We belive council should do one of the following: t) Buy properties, when owners wish to sell, at a market value sufficient for owner to replace his property. 2) Stop the illegal policy of discouraging renovation and remodelling within the pre- sent zoning, and allow up- zoning and development in co-operation with owners. 3) Rescind the acquisition policy.
