of Windsor

TOM SCHIMMER was one
of the youngest boys ever to
win the junior athlete of the
year award at Windsor.

But when his name was
called Wednesday night at
the school's award
ceremonies, his mother had
to accept his award.

Schimmer, you see, was
off pitching his team to a
championship victory in the
Lynn Valley Pony League.

The young athlete also
won, along with basketball
teammate Colin Bennett, a
$75 basketball scholarship —
both of them the first grade
nines to do so.

The two play on the junior
instead of juvenile team at
Windsor, and helped the
squad finish third on the
North Shore.

Schimmer its one of
several outstanding  all-
around athletes honoured at
their high schools this year at
graduation time.

His baseball team, Big
Bird Sound, not only
defeated North Shore Credit
Union, but managed a shut
out at the same tme.
Schimmer struck out 20 out
of a possible 21, allowed no
hits, and topped off his
evening’s performance with
a home run finishing 9-0.

He also placed second tn
the North Shore in juvenile
shot put — even though he
had never thrown before —
and finished fifth in the
Vancouver and istrict
meet

And if that isn’t enough,
he plays goalie for the Lynn
Valley M G Builders soccer
team as well as maintains a B
average al school,
