CHRYSLER CANADA was
the big winner in the
Automobile Journalists
. Association of Canada 1993
Car of the Year awards an-
nounced at a pre-taped TV
show aired on CTV on Feb.

Chrysler's Canadian-built LH
sedan series, consisting of the
Eagle Vision, Chrysler Concorde
and Intrepid, was named Car of
the Year for 1993 and also won
the Best New Family Car catego-
ry.

Volkswagen Canada was
another big winner capturing two
awards for. Best: New. Economy
Car with the Golf and Best New
Sports Car with the Corrado VR6.

Best New Luxury Car went to
Nissan’s Infiniti J30 and in the
crowded. Best New Light Truck/
Sport .Utility category — which
includes both pickups and 4X4
multi-purpose vehicles — the
honors went to the Range Rover
County LWB.

“Fifty-one automobile journal-
‘ists from across Canada took part
in the .1993 Car of the Year
' Awards process,’? AJAC president
Alan McPhee said. ‘‘Vehicles were
subjected to long-term real-world

evaluations plus an intensive’

five-day testing session at Shan-
nonville. Motorsport Park near
Belleville, Ont.”

“The vehicles were judged in 10
areas including economy, comfcr!,
safety, performance and value for
money,’’ he added.

Forty-five vehicles competed in
seven . categories. Ballots . were
tabulated by the accounting firm

of Ernst & Young. The overall
Car of the Year was selected from
the category winners.
