OPEN | LETTER TO THE LGH BOARD — ‘As a. nominee . from: the floor to. the Board | of: Directors. at the recent. Annual General Meeting of chooses its’ members from within a- select group of friends, relatives and former — 7 members, and the vote of.the | 7 ‘society. as a ‘whole is ‘the North and. West Van- couver . Hospital: Soceity, -I Le have some observations Sand” questions. “Everyone is aware ‘that oo 1004 applications for mem- ~~ bership to the Society from | - non-residents were received on August 20, 1978. The Board eventually discovered that these people ‘would: be | | denied. voting ‘tights if the. annual meeting proceeded as planned on Sept. 20, 1978. Because these applicants applied in good. faith, the Board graciously moved the. Annual meeting date to Sept... - 27, 1978. Now, I. am wondering why the Board was so considerate of such a large non-resident group, a group larger than the resi- dent. membership? . ‘As a result. of | accepting these . members, everyone: attending ‘the. meeting was — faced with running. the ; gauntlet of pro-abortion. signs,. people promoting pro- -abortion literature and others selling « ‘a: left-wing . news- — paper. I wonder show the. Board members. ‘and ‘the resident members felt as-he or. she approached the ~ entrance to Carson Graham School! : In addition, a paper was being ‘handed out with the names of those nominated by the Board of Directors, with the directive to vote for these names and. also to vote “tyes” on ' the. residency requirement. Did: a Board member give these names to this’ non-resident group? This is certainly one way to decide an election before it has even taken place. No one ‘nominated from the floor, no matter how well qualified, was to be even considered. During the meeting one of the candidates nominated by the Board made a statement ‘to the effect that there was . no piace on the Hoard ior members of a specific inter- est group. Do all the members of the Board concur _ with this siatement? Ai ihe same time it would a pear that the Board. ha objection to the large number of non-residents who belong to a specific interest group, casting their votes in favor of the Board. I would like to know why a concerned citizen and taxpayer of the . North Shore, who has partic- ular talents and abilities, and _ is willing to serve, ‘should find that he or she has no. place on the Board because of his. or her principles or moral convictions. . Another matter that: con- cerned me was the new draft of the Constitution and By-Laws. All future mem- bers of the Society must be residents of West Vancou- ver, North Vancouver Dis- trict or City. What happens — to the present non-resident members? As they are presently members in good Standing do they continue to be members for -as long as -. they, pay their dues? If so, North Shore. resi-. dents, your, hospital i is in-the — hands ‘ of a | Board’ that — ONELOCATION ONLY 1470 PEMBERTON, _ NORTH VANCOUVER -_ who have no interest whatso- ever in Lions Gate Hospital, . - except to elect a Board which | they consider pro-abortion (a. specific. interest group?)
