Artist and teacher featured in exhibition DON Jarvis was born in Vancouver in 1923. He studied at the Vancouver School of Art under the tutelage of B.C. Binning and Jack Shadbolt, graduating in 1948. A year later, he furthered his studies by working with Hans Hoffman in New York. He later returned to Vancouver and enjoyed a carver as an artist and paint- ing instructor. farvis and his wife built a house on Sentinel Hill in the 1950s, joining the burgcon- ing West Vancouver arts community. . In 1986, he retired from Emily Carr College of Art and Design after teaching there for 35 years. For the past nine years, he has lived in West Sechelt.
