HOME BASE By Michael Becker Burgos Timoner formed Latin American International Communications about a year ago. Burgos Timoner left Argentina lo live in Canada 20 years earlier and now lives in North Vancouver. Recently she’s specialized in Latin American studies and Spanish Literature at Simon Fraser University. She's two credits short of attaining a double major B.A. The idea for the business came together while at university. “] knew at this point that I can‘t teach at a university level. [ love the culture of Latin America and | love to show people what Latin America is really all about. [ then thought I would like to work with companies that are (rading’ with Latin America and expose them to the culture as well as business,” said Burgos Timoner. She provides the following translation and cultural services: Bi legal and technical translations; @ translation and delivery of pro- posals to customers: @ validation of translated market- ing materials: @ bridging of language and cultur- al barriers; : @ communication between poten- tial business partners: @ travel and living arrangements, As a marketing agent for exporters and importers, Burgos Timoner identifies customers for products and helps to market them. She's associated with two com- panies in Argentina (Intecsa and Econosul SRL} that provide legal advice, consulting advice -and accounting advice. She also facilitates linkages between Latin American compa- nies and Canadian companies. “When people from South America send me projects, | contact compa- nies here that are interested in investing their time and money. We try to arrange a number of projects in an area.” Her main interest right now is developing connections with Canadian companies interested in exporting to Latin American coun- tries.
