please — If you're not one of the

countless North Shore residents
who frequent one of the numerous
local coffee shops, this request proba-
bly sounds like Greek,

But for any bohemian-craving caf-
feine addict, the phrase invokes the hiss-
ing sound of steamed milk machines
amid the heavy aroma of just-roasted
coffee beans.

Coffee houses of foday have taken
the fine art of creating a cup of joe to
new levels, as the chrome-piaied
machines that create the heady mix-
tures have all but replaced the simple
percolators of the past.
