24 — Sunday, September 27, 1992 — North Shore News Accountant likes crunching numbers DON YOUNG relaxes on a Friday afternoon at his Caulfeild home. One of his daughters enjoys the sunshine as she reads a book on the front lawn. Normally Young, the newly elected president of the Chartered Accountants’ Institute of B.C. (CAIBC), would be dressed in a suit and tie working at Peat Mar- wick Thorne chartered accoun- tants, where he is a partner. But today Young is taking a well-deserved day off and is look- ing forward to flying to Hawaii with his family for a short vaca- tion. Although he was born in Van- couver, Young started his chartered accounting career with a firm in Winnipeg before he moved out west. “It (chartered accounting pro- fession) just interested me, and, ! think, it was more of a process of things that 1 didn't like and | decided it would be something that I would like,”’ said Young. The CAIBC has a 37-member staff. By Surj Rattan News Reporter “It (accountants’ association) really has three focuses. One is in the area of student education, another is in member services and the third area is regulatory ser- vices,’’ said Young. “On a rotating basis, we inspect the offices of our individual par- ticipant offices. “It’s an activity that | feel very proud of, and I’m happy to give something back to the profession. The profession has been very good to me,”’ said Young. Although Young is forced to travel several days of the month in his job, most of his days start with an early-morning run. “That helps me organize my days,” says Young.
