To tan safely, you must know what you are up against. There are three components of the sun’s rays which make up visible fight, infrared rays and ul- traviolet light rays. There are three kinds of radiation within ul- traviolet light (U.V. light). They are U.V.A, U.V.B. and U.V.C. rays. U.V.C. light is absorbed by the earth’s ozone layer and therefore doesn’t affect us (yet). U.V.B. light has traditionally been labell- ed as the ‘‘bad”” rays which are damaging to skin and cause sun burn, cell damage, and skin cancer.
