DEGREES, DIPLONiAS and cer-
tificates were conferre.t upen ap-
proximately 1,630 students during
Spring Convocation ceremonies at
the University of Victoria recently.

The degrees were conferred by
UVic Chancellor Dt. William
Gibson upon students from
throughout British Columbia,
Canada and beyond.

Six honorary degrees were also
conferred during the ceremonies.
Honorary Doctor of L.aws degrees
were conferred upon Rhys Eyton,
president of Canadian Airlines In-
ternational; Edward S. Rogers,
chief executive officer of Rogers
Communications, Victoria
businessman Allen
Vandekerkhove; and Vancouver
lawyer Brian Williams.

The honorary Doctor of Science
degree was conferred upon Dr.
Kay E. Davies of the Molecular
Genetics group at the Institute of
Molecular Medicine at John
Radcliffe Hospital at Oxford, and
the honorary Doctor of Letters
degree was conferred upon Cana-
dian poet and writer Dorothy
