Pack up a winter road kit and make sure it’s in your car at all times from now until spring. A road kit should include: 1. A working flashlight. And check it periodically to make sure the battery is still working. The only thing winter road is being stuck on a winter road without @ light. 2. Road maps. Especially if you’re on less travelled or unfamiliar roads a lot during winter. 3. A shovel and sand. These can make all the dif- ference between being really stuck in the snow and being briefly stuck in the snow. 4. Ice scraper and brush. And use them before you drive away. Don't count on your defroster to clear the windows after you start driv- ing. 5. Booster cables. These can save you a lot of time and let you help out other motorists as well. Make sure you understand how to con- nect and use them — ask any service station attendant if you are unsure. 6. First aid kit. idea at all times. 7. Road flares or warning lights. BMW’s larger models offer plenty of status too, but prices start at $50,000. A car that you don’t see too often is the two-seater Buick Reatta. A new con- vertible version of this car will be arriving in 1990 and it looks exceptionally good. Price should be around $40,000. I think Toyota’s new ‘Fer- rari-like’ MR2 sports car will also hit a chord. But remember, with the money you pay for one prestigious luxury automobile, you could buy an economy car cor every member of your family, or a nice compact car and a pret- ty big term deposit, or a lot of other useful things.
