Alarm systems can ‘hear, THERE ARE many different styles of heme alarm systems, and each must de carefully researcheu in order for you to decide on the one that is most appropriate for your needs. The following are descriptions of just two, less- familiar kinds of security measures utilized today. ake Unlike other home security alarms, the Centurion system, de- veloped by a local company, is alerted to a prowler’s presence by the particular sounds that the would-be thief makes. By incor- porating recent developments in dizital microchip technology, the alarm uses an audio discrimination system which constantly monitors sounds in the home and listens for the noise of forcible entry. The instant any of these sounds are identified by the microprocessor, the main unit immediately sounds both internal and external sirens as well as ac- tivating inside lights. The system is programmed to pick up only on particular sounds, such as breaking glass, splintering wood or prying sounds. Other normal day-to-day living sounds inside the home are left alone, so the system can usually be left on all day, even while the family is in the house. feel’ intruders The wireless systems utilize the copper wiring that’s already in place in the homes and the sensors plug into standard wall outlets. wet Sometimes called a ‘motion detec- tor’ or ‘huat detector’ the Passive Infrared (PIR) is known for occa- sionally resulting in unwanted false alarms. When the correct PIR is used in the right application, how- ever, the PIR can be an asset to a home security system. For example, if an intruder has caused an alarm by opening a door or window, the siren will sound for a preset period and then the system will reset. A zone which has an open loop, caused by the door or window being open, cannot reset. The control panel detects this and sety all other zones. Without the PIR, an intruder ceuld come back in and the alarm would not sound. The PIR, how- ever, will reset each time and therefore offers protection even when the perimeter has been vio- lated. ‘Unfortunately, there are many makes of PIR on the market and some do not have the quality of others,'’ says Bob Locke of B&E Burglar Stop. ‘‘Buying by price alone is a very common mistake, causing lots of grief later.”" AM/FM CASSETTE e Am/Fm Cassette e Auto Reverse ¢ Digital © Presets * Auto Loudness Clock e Fader KE2535 *249 SECURITY FOR YOUR NEW CAR STEREO 315° : NORTH’ VANCOUVER - 985-6422: -Acposs enon wire SPOT 19 - Sundays.
