Aidermen were not ‘wimps’

Dear Editor:

Ernie Crist was wrong to call his
fellow North Vancouver District
aldermen ‘‘wimps’”’ (North Skorc
News, Jan. 8). They are wise and
courageous.

They did the right thing. They
zoned the Dorothy Lynas School
Site as school property. They pric-
ed and sold it as such.

Mr. Crist, with his years on
council, should know that council
had little choice. The site was zon-
ed for school purposes in 1979. It's
there on our municipal map and
recorded in North Vancouver
District’s ‘‘official plan’? in Vic-
toria as school land only.

Mr. Crist’s economics are weird
as well. Residential property values
are increased by the allotment of
school and park sites nearby.
School and park land, conversely,
fall in value. And if nc fees can be
charged to offset the upkeep of
these ‘‘public fands,’’ their market
value iz zero.
