City council gets

pay-raise formula

NORTH Vancouver
City councillors have
voted themselves a
back-dated raise that
averages out to $10.20
per month.

Based on the wage increas-
es of chosen union groups, the
mayor and council will receive
an annual raise equal to a third
of the total of the settlement

with Canadian
Fublic Employees, Local 389

(CUPE), a third of the total of

the settlement with the North
Vancouver Firefighters’
Association, Local 296 (LAFF)
and a third of the Consumer
Price Index for the previous
calendar vear.

From the vear 1997, the
formula breaks down as fol-
lows:

@ CUPE: 0% (1997), 1%
(1998), and 2% (1999),
2 IAFF: 1% (1997), 0.75%
(1998) and 1% (1999);

Consumer Price Index:
0.7% (1997), 0.5% (1998) and
0.5% (1999).

When added up and
applied to the newly adopted
council indemnity formula,
mayor and council will receive
an increase of 0.23% (for
1997), 1.08% (for 1998) and
0.83% (for 1999).

This translates into actual
dollar amounts of: $43.87
(1997), $206.48 (1998) and
$160.40 (1999) for the coun-
cillors and $131.62 (1997),
$619.45 (1998), and $481.20
(1999) tor the mayor.

Each councillor will be
paid $19,485.75 for 1999
while the mayor will receive
$58,457.27.
