sengers, the Alero’s interior
is better-suited for four. The
layout and design of the
interior is modern and a
considerable improvement
over the Achieva.

A curvy, sweeping dash
and door design combined
with a bold floor shifter and
console provide a sporty
look.

In the centre dash area, a
blacked out console features
an upper stereo with sensi-
ble, well-marked buttons
and knobs; below that is a
heater with three protruding
dials for the fan, cempera-

ture, and ventilation made of

a soft, textured rubber
which have good grip.
Forward visibility is
good, but the Alero’s high
tail makes parallel parking
difficult. The ride is firm and
comfortable, and handling is
excellent, although T would
have liked more steering
feel. Both the four- and six-
cylinder engines use cheaper
regular fuel bet I didn’t like
the fact that there’s no lock-
ing fuel door for security.
The new Alero’s come in
two-door coupe and four-
door sedan bodystytes in
three trim levels: GX, GL,
and GLS. Both coupes and
sedans of the same trim level

steering, 215/60R-15 inch

stereo with clock, split fold-
ing rear seatback, variable
intermittent wipers, floor
shifter, armrest with storage
bin, and tachometer.

To this, GL Coupes and
Sedans add an upgraded
AM/FM /cassette stereo
with six speakers, power
windows with driver's
express-down feature, power
mirrors, cruise control,
height-adjustable driver's
seat, improved front seats,
and variable-eftort power
steering. GL models are also
available with the optional
V6 engine.

GLS models have the
standard 3.4 liter V6 engine,
larger 225/50R-16 inch
radials mounted on alloy
wheels, AM/FM/CD /cas-
sette stereo system, leather-
trimmed seats, six-way
power driver's seat, front fog
lights, leather wrapped steer-
ing wheel and shifter, and
dual exhausts with chrome
tips.

The Alero is a very
sporty, stylish, powerful car,
but it’s not quite as refined
as European or Japanese
compact’cars,

Still, it’ s certainly not
your father's Oldsmobile.
