You may want to increase the limit of your third-party liability coverage, especially if you only have the basic $200,000 protec- tion. It would be wise to increase it to at least $1 million. This means that any claims for damage made by passengers, other drivers, or pedestrians would be covered up to $1 million. Some voluntary organizers do hold their own special excess third-party liability coverage. This protects volunteer drivers if a claim for injury ex- ceeds the limits of their own in- surance, . In any case, you should ask the organization you are volunteering for if it carries insurance and to what extent you are protected. In some cases you might have to pay to be included under the insurance plan. Regardless of what kind of coverage you or the organization has, as a volunteer you have 2 du- ty to take care and drive in a safe and careful manner.
